CIBT at STANYS
The Cornell Institute for Biology Teachers presents sessions each year at the STANYS annual conference. We look forward so seeing you there!
CIBT Sessions
E-40 and F-40: Reproduction and Fetal Development
Monday, 9:30 - 12:00
This is a double workshop session. Participants must register for, and attend, BOTH workshops.
This workshop will include a number of activities that address the biology of reproduction, including dissection of male and female bovine reproductive organs with a focus on fetal development.
G-55: The Plant Game
Monday, 1:45 - 2:45
This activity investigates how plants grow in a game where teams of students build a plant during random climate conditions. Water is added to the system by a roll of the dice. The game ends when the dice determine a frost. The data collected during this game is graphed.
I-43 and J-43: The Building Blocks of Life
Tuesday, 9:30 - 12:00
This is a double workshop session. Participants must register for, and attend, BOTH workshops.
This activity examines the relationship between DNA sequences, protein shape and function. Students examine a substrate, then predict and build an enzyme that could interact with it. Then they build another enzyme from the DNA sequence of the enzyme and see if it fits the substrate. Finally, the effect of DNA mutations on shape will be investigated.
