Summer Workshops for Teachers

These workshops bring teachers together every summer to experience recent updates in biology and to promote interactions between teachers and Cornell scientists.  Each workshop includes talks from Cornell faculty members, hands-on lab and field activities, and opportunities for teachers to interact with other teachers and Cornell researchers.  The workshops are held on the Cornell campus in Ithaca, NY during July.

These summer workshops, as well as all other CIBT-sponsored activities, are free of charge.

In addition, participants in the summer workshops are provided with housing in Cornell dorms at no extra cost.

The Birds Do it- The Bees Do it- Why Even Bacteria do it!

This workshop will focus on one of the most important concepts in biology- the continuance of the species! We will examine reproduction in many different biological organisms- bacteria, plants, fruit flies, humans, unusual animals and even spiders!

Through lectures by Cornell faculty members, visits to research labs, reading and lab activities- we will explore our current attempts to understand reproduction and development on a molecular, behavioral, and chemical level. You will leave this workshop with some new activities and lots of new information to share with your students.

Albert Einstein once asked- "How on earth are you ever going to explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love?" This workshop will focus on the information scientists have discovered in the years since Albert made this statement!

"A man falls in love through his eyes, a woman through her ears." Thomas Carlyle

Registration is closed. If you would like to be added to our wait list, please contact Nancy at nb299@cornell.edu. Accepted teachers will be notified by July 2, 2009.
